Palangka Raya, the capital city of Central Kalimantan, has been on the news recently with the discourse of moving the capital on Indonesia to Kalimantan. Palangka Raya is one of the strong candidates should that plan comes to fruition. This city, after all, was designed to be the capital of Indonesia.

Palangka Raya and indeed the whole Central Kalimantan is known more for its natural surroundings and its forests. This city, however, is much more than that. These are some of the most beautiful spots that you can find in Palangka Raya.

Hanjalutung Lake

This lake is like a hidden gem in Palangka Raya tourism. Only some locals know about this place and there are basically no improvements whatsoever. This lake is a part of a big river, but without the strong stream, making it a great place to relax.

Bundaran Besar

This is the new icon of Palangka Raya. This large monument is built in a huge park, located in the middle of the city. This is the new hang out place for those who visit this city. This is the center of the car-free day during the weekends in Palangka Raya.

Balanga Museum

This museum has a rather large collection of the province’s indigenous culture. You can find some musical instruments, swords, porcelain pots, ceramics, and items required for Ngaju ceremonies. Balangan Museum also displays birthing tools, benches, and even bonehouses.

Kalawa Waterpark

This is the biggest waterpark, not only in the city but also in the province. This waterpark is built on a three hectares land. This is an ideal recreational spot for the family as everyone can have fun in this park. There are several slides, ranging from the tamest to the wildest ones. You can also find many pools and a lazy river.

This is a small zoo in the city of Palangka Raya. You can explore the whole area on a long deck, looking from one stilted hut to another. There are a few collections of animals you can see in this place. When you are done saying hi to the animals, you can enjoy the scenery at the river bank.

This dock is a place to relax and enjoy the lovely scenery. This dock is the gate of Sebangau National Park, located some 10 kilometers from the center of the city. Access to this place is relatively easy as there are many public transportations that can get you here.
