As with many areas in Indonesia, Lombok has many special delicious foods. Some of them are really great for iftar (breakfasting) during Ramadan. Here are some of the most delicious iftar dishes in Lombok.

Just like many other satay dishes, it is basically skewered meat grilled with special spices. However, the main difference is the ingredients. Most of the other satays are using chicken or lamb, but sate Tanjung uses fish meat. The fish meat is marinated in special spices before then grilled and then wrapped in a paste of spices. The result is a delicious, spicy, and flavorful satay in each bite. Sate Tanjung is a very popular iftar dish that is originated from Tanjung, North Lombok.

Nasi Balap Puyung is almost similar to Nasi Campur in other places. Basically, it is rice with several side dishes. In Nasi Balap Puyung’s case, it is rice with shredded chicken, long bean, crunchy potato, shredded fish, and fried chicken or eggs. The reason why this dish is very popular is because it is cheap and fulfilling. Additionally, this dish can be prepared really quick so the customers don’t have to wait too long. It is quite flavorful, even without any soupy part.

This is the specialty dish of Bali and Lombok. To oversimplify, it is shredded chicken. However, the cooking process can be quite difficult. Chicken meat is smeared with spices and then steamed until soft. After that, you still have to grill the chicken with other spices. Next, you shred the meat as small as you like. The shredded chicken is then mixed with sambal, yet another spice paste. It’s complicated but the end result is delicious at every bite.

Sate and Gule Hajat

The name is actually taken from the name of a restaurant in West Lombok. Rumah Makan Hajat (Hajat Restaurant) is legendary for its sate and gule. They use lamb, but unlike many others, they have special treatment. That results in softer meat and less lamb aroma, making it really delicious. During Ramadan, this restaurant is always busy during iftar time. Some customers are already waiting hours before the iftar time to secure their places here.
