Belitung is one of the two main islands in Bangka-Belitung Province. Located between Sumatra and Kalimantan, this island is popular for several reasons. Apart from the unique melting pot of culture, Belitung also has many wonderful natural spots.
This island is small enough that many of the most interesting points are reachable from Tanjung Pandan, the biggest city on the island. From Tanjung Kelayang in the north to Batu Baginde in the south, Belitung has so many beautiful spots. Here are some of them.
Tanjung Kelayang in North Belitung
This beach area is located on the northwestern tip of the island. The whole Kelayang area is majestic and wonderful. If you explore this area, you will find a lot of granite formations. Many of them form small islands off the northern coast of Belitung. One, in particular, really catchy because it resembles a bird. The water here is relatively calm and clear, making it an ideal location to unwind.
Dead Jellyfish at Penyabong Beach
Moving to the southern coast, you can find the unique Penyabong Beach. This beach is located at Padang Kandis, Membalong district, Belitung Regency. The beach itself is almost similar to Tanjung Kelayang, with white sand stretch and lots of granite formations. However, the real gems are the dead jellyfish on the beach. They are beautiful if you are a photographer. Just photograph them but don’t touch them because their venom is still potent.
Burung Mandi Beach
Moving to the east, you can find Burung Mandi Beach. This beach, just like many other beaches in Belitung, has a soft white sand stretch with several granite rocks lying around. Interestingly, this beach has a great sunset view despite located on the eastern side of the island. The golden hour here is really beautiful with the sun emanating actual warm golden rays.
Batu Baginde in Southwest Belitung
We then go to the southwestern tip of the island. There are huge boulders near the southeastern coast. These boulders are climbable, and you can get a wonderful view of the whole area from the top of it. You can see the green lowland all the way to the sea. The blue horizon far away indicates that you are at the outer limit of the island.
Belitung is a great place to explore. However, you will need a lot of time to explore all of its beauties. From the beautiful Tanjung Kelayang in the north to Batu Baginde in the south, this island is really rich in beautiful panoramas.
