Lombok has many beautiful waterfalls that you can explore and enjoy. The majority of charming waterfalls in Lombok are located around Mount Rinjani.
To the north of this great volcano, there are two waterfalls located next to each other; Tiu Kelep and Sendang Gile. This place can be a fun destination for you to explore on your trip on Lombok.
Route
To reach these two waterfalls, you can come to the village of Senaru, which is one of the main ascent points to Mount Rinjani. From this village, you can do a short trek to the two waterfalls. If you arrive in the morning, you can watch the beautiful sunrise on the spectacular Mount Rinjani.
Sendang Gile
Sendang Gile Waterfall is the first destination you will reach in morning trek at Senaru. There are many signs that direct you to the waterfall so you don’t have to worry about getting lost on the road.
Sendang Gile is an attractive waterfall on its own right. it has two layered falls with massive stream power. This waterfall is surrounded by green vegetation that is still pristine and refreshing. There is no pond below this waterfall, so it’s not suitable for swimming. You can only enjoy its waters to take a shower from a safe distance.
Tiu Kelep Waterfall
After you are done playing in Sendang Gile you can continue the trip to Tiu Kelep. The road you are going to go through is natural dirt trail which requires you to cross small streams a number of times. Wear proper shoes or sandals for this trek.
Tiu Kelep is located in a natural amphitheater-like niche with a very dramatic waterfall. The main waterfall falls from the top layer. Underneath, there are several more waterfalls that are as if from the rock walls that are there. The scenery becomes more stunning because most of the walls in this waterfall are overgrown with lovely green vines.
Trekking tips on Tiu Kelep and Sendang Gile
Wear footwear that has good grip and is not slippery. Also, prepare change clothes if you want to bathe in the waterfall. Steam/mist from the waterfall can spread quite far, so protect your camera from being damaged by that. Avoid visiting these waterfall in the rainy season as the flow can be very strong.
