Segara Anak, factually, has an area of 1.1 hectares. However, according to the myth, if you come here and see that this lake looks wide, you are bound to have a long life. And vice versa, if this lake looks narrow in your eyes then it is a bad sign that you will not live a long life. But that is just a myth, you are free to believe or dismiss it.

A child of the sea

In the local language, Segara Anak means a child of the sea. This is because this lake is quite wide a lake located on the caldera of a volcano. In addition, the color of the water is also blue like the ocean. Needless to say, despite named as a child of the sea, this is still a freshwater lake. Some people even believe that bathing in the lake can make them healthy because of the mineral content in it.

To reach this lake, you have to climb Mount Rinjani, which stand tall at approximately 2000 meters. Excellent stamina is crucial to finish this adventure. Even though you are in the best condition when climbing this mountain, you will definitely feel tired when you reach Segara Anak. But worry not! According to the myth, sitting on the edge of the lake can eliminate all the fatigue that you get from the ascent. Whether it’s true or not, you can prove it yourself by conquering this mountain.

A new volcano on the side of the lake

One of the phenomena that makes Segara Anak so special is the presence of a new volcano on one of its side. This cone-shaped new mountain is named Gunung Baru Jari and it constantly grows taller and bigger while continues to be active. Segara Anak and Mount Baru Jari are considered holy places by Balinese and Lomboknese Hindus and this location is used as a venue for religious ceremonies every year.
