Pangandaran is mostly known as a regency that produces lots of seafood. This regency is not very well known in Indonesia’s map of tourism. However, that doesn’t mean that Pangandaran is devoid of beautiful places and attractions.
One of the most popular destinations in Pangandaran today is probably Santirah River. This small river is so beautiful with green cliffs on each side and even several caves and waterfalls in its route. Here are some of the facts that you need to know about River Tubing at Santirah River.
Location
The base camp of Santirah River Tubing is at Selasari, Parigi, Pangandaran. The place is not too hard to reach as it is connected with a relatively good road. You can get there by driving a car or riding a motorcycle. Santirah is about 15 kilometers to the north of Pangandaran Beach. That means that this place is easily reached from many other cities nearby, including Banjar and Ciamis.
The Tubing Route
As the name implies, you will enjoy tubing along the Santirah River. This river is ideal for tubing because the stream is not too strong. Besides, there are several caves and waterfalls you can see along the way downstream.
There are experienced staffs that will help you along the way, so you won’t have to worry about a thing. After all, you get standard safety equipment like life jacket and helmet here.
Caves and Waterfalls
The caves that you will pass during your tubing are Gendang Cave, Panjang Santirah Cave, Lengkob Cave, and Cukang Taneuh Cave. Panjang Santirah is quite long, some parts of the cave are permanently dark. There are also several waterfalls in your route. You can stop at these waterfalls to relax a little or playing around or dare yourself to jump from the cliff into the river.
Tips
The best time to enjoy Santirah is at the end of the rainy season and the beginning of dry season. The water volume is still high while still clear. Always listen to your guide at all time because chances are you are not the only one he’s responsible for.
If it is possible at all, pick the biggest tube as the bigger one usually is more stable. Non-swimmer can also enjoy this adventure.
Santirah River Tubing is a relatively new attraction, located in an area that is not known for its tourism. However, the experience you get here is comparable to those popular river tubing in Ubud, Bali or Goa Pindul, Jogjakarta.
