Lake Buyan, the Other Half of the Twins

Known as the Twin Lake, Lake Tamblingan and Buyan are only separated by a rather thin channel. Both lakes are located at the slope of Mount Lesung, on the mid/north Bali. Even though they are located next to each other, they are very different in many ways.

Lake Buyan is a more economy and tourism-oriented lake. There are many activities carried out at Buyan to support the tourism sector. In a way, Lake Buyan is a more tourist-friendly destination while Tamblingan is unaffected by the world. Here are some interesting fact about Lake Buyan.

Location

Lake Buyan is administratively located at Pancasari Village, Sukasada District, Buleleng Regency. The altitude of the lake is on 1350 meter above sea level, with cool climate and fresh air. Lake Buyan is actually part of a conservation area covering 15,000 hectares of land. The actual lake in Buyan is only 3,9 square kilometers, with maximum depth of 87 meters.

As the lake is located in a conservation area, it is managed by Natural Resources Conservation Hall (Balai Konservasi Sumber Daya Alam Bali). The management’s office is located just by the lake. This office also function as a good information center for tourists.

Unlike Lake Tamblingan which is literally untouched by modernism, Lake Buyan is more open to practical use. The waters here are not considered sacred so it can be used as irrigation as well as fisheries. You might find some fishpond in Buyan. However, the volume of water in Lake Buyan can fluctuate rather extremely during the year.

Trekking and Hiking

Lake Buyan is surrounded by lush green hills, largely untouched by any development. Those hills become a great place for trekking and hiking, especially considering the panorama is wonderful. The route is rather light, although some parts can be a bit challenging. However, as long as you do what your guide says, you will have no problem whatsoever.

Even though you clam the hills, the cool climate will somewhat help preserve your energy. There is a good chance you will reach Lake Tamblingan area during this trekking activity. Even thou the path you are trekking is quite good, modern vehicles are still banned here.

Camping Area

To the south of the lake, you can find a camping area. Some parts of the camping ground is protected by many big trees, although most are located in learning. Spending the night here can be an unforgettable experience, especially when the sky is clear. You can see starry sky with millions of stars in front of your tent.

Wanagiri Hidden Hills

There are several hills with a great view of Lake Buyan, one of them is Wwanagiri Hill. This spot is so great, especially after the management added several swings there.

You can have your pictures taken in a seemingly extreme swing with the beautiful lake as the background. The result is simply wonderful.

Lake Buyan is lovely place to visit, especially if you have lots of time in this area. There are many activities to do, and you can easily find necessary facilities and amenities here. All in all, Lake Buyan is a great destination for adventurers.
