One of the most exploited tourism spots in the last few years is the top of the hill. To bank on the beautiful scenery in the summits, local managements make platforms for photographic purposes, usually located in a location with the best background. Yogyakarta has many of those beautiful hills.

Apart from being naturally scenic, these vantage point usually also has cool climate, ideal for relaxing. However, people do come to these places for its panorama, to take lovely pictures to share on their social media accounts. Here are some of the best scenic hilltop in Yogyakarta.

Punthuk Mongkrong

There is a V-shaped platform for visitors to take pictures on. The best times to take pictures here are during sunrise or sunsets. Located 624 meter above sea level, you will need to hike a little to reach the hilltop. Punthuk Mongkrong is located near Borobudur, it can be your ideal side quest when you visit the great temple.

Bukit Mojo Gumelem

In Mojo Gumelem Hill, you can take your picture in a giant bird nest, with a background of lush green hills and lovely valleys with a river. If you come before the sunrise, you can see the clouds under your feet. The route to the hilltop is quite easy, the parking area is just a few meters away from the photo spots.

Punthuk Setumbu

Punthuk Setumbu is one of the best place to watch sunrise with Borobudur Temple as the foreground. The view, when the weather is clear is simply mesmerizing. Lush green vallery with Borobudur slightly protrude in the middle, with majestic Mount Merapi as the background. The hazy morning diffuse the lights so perfectly to give the best effect.

Puncak Kosakora

Kosakora Hill is a vantage point located next to Drini Beach in Gunungkidul Yogyakarta. From the vantage point of this hill, you can see the Indian Ocean with a strip of several beaches. Reaching this hill can be challenging since the road are not yet developed well. However, all of your hard work climbing this hill will be paid off once you reach the top.

Ayunan Langit Watu Jaran

This is not your usual swing. Ayunan Langit (literally means sky swing) Watu Jaran is a swing located on the edge of a cliff. This swing can be scary as your back will be facing a huge drop, so this is definitely not for the faintest of heart. The pictures are amazing, though.

Hutan Pinus Pengger

The Pengger Pinewood is located at Dlingo, Bantul, Jogja. This pinewood is developed to become a great place to hang out with friends and loved ones. One of the attractions here is the hand-shaped photo platform overlooking Yogyakarta City. This spot is at its best during night time with Jogja lights as a background.

Gunung Mungker

Not too far from Pengger, you can also find Gunung Mungker, a destination that offers wonderful panorama and great photo spots. There are several photo platforms, including a horse-pulled cart sculpture. This hill is also overlooking the city of Yogyakarta.

Watu Goyang Mangunan

Watu Goyang literally means wobbly rock, from a rock that would easily wobble with a little push. There are many photogenic posts, either man-made or the natural ones. Getting to the top of this hill is actually easy as the parking space is not too far.

Punthuk Sukmojoyo

Punthuk Sukmojoyo is officially located at Magelang Regency, but its proximity to Borobudur Temple makes many people visit this hill from Jogja. Being on a top of the hill, you will have an unobstructed view of your surroundings. As for photogenic spots, there are several platforms you can use, even if you are using drones.

Kalibiru

Kalibiru is one of the first destinations that uses photo platform on top of the hill as their main attraction. In Kalibiru, the platform is relatively simple with only a rectangular stage on top a cliff, overlooking a vast green valley and a lake. The peaks of Menoreh Hills in the distance also provide even more beauty to this place.

Jogja has many beautiful hills that have become great spots for those who are looking to fill their Instagram feed with lovely pictures. Most places in this list command very little entrance fee or no fee at all. You only need to pay the parking fare.
