Tanjung Lesung, a New Favorite Escape in Westernmost Part of Java

Tanjung Lesung is a relatively new tourism resort that is still being developed extensively. Located in the western tip of Java, Tanjung Lesung is a great tourist destinations well as a great hub to explore many other wonderful spots. Just 4 hours away from Jakarta, Tanjung Lesung is the new favorite spot to escape from the bustling city.

Not all the improvements has been finished yet here, most are still in progress. However, it can still offers more than enough to appease your thirst for a wonderful tropical holiday. It’s not only its beautiful beaches but also excellent experience, especially if you go with your family.

The Natural Beaches Itself

The beaches within this area is typical tropical beaches. White sand, memorable sunsets, crystal clear water… just like a standard feature of many beaches in Indonesia. While the scenery itself is breathtaking, the underwater life in this area is also great.

The simplest way to enjoy it all is by snorkeling in a clear day; you’d see colorful coral reefs teeming with many species of marine life. If you want to help, you can also help the conservation effort by joining to dive and transplant more coral.

Even with unfinished development, there are still lots activities offered here. The easiest to do is watersport offered in the main beach. You can rent a jet ski to explore the area, usually they cost IDR320,000 per 20 minutes session.

Many other activities are offered, including banana boat and wake board. If you want to try your skills at sailing, you can go to the Sailing Club. You can rent a dinghy that suits your size and need. You will also be helped by a professional guide and a safety boat nearby.

Trip to The Notorious Krakatoa

Krakatau (Krakatoa) erupted in 19th century, causing a climate change worldwide. From the remains of the old volcano, rises a new volcano aptly named Gunung Anak Krakatau (Child of Krakatoa). This young volcano is quite active, continuing to fume and rise in height in the middle of Sunda Strait.

When Anak Krakatau is being nice, it attracts many tourists and scientists to come. Tanjung Lesung is one of the best hub to reach the volcano, with many agencies offer daily tours when the volcano is considered safe.

Peeking Rhinos at Ujung Kulon

Ujung Kulon is the last bastion of Javan Rhino or lesser one-horned rhino, an extremely rare and endangered species. This rhino is known to only survive at the Ujung Kulon National Park, located at tge southwestern tip of Java. Ujung Kulon is not only accessible by land but it is also interesting to venture there from the sea.

If you choose to enter the place from Tanjung Lesung, you can take a tour which will usually take you to beautiful Peucang Island before entering the inland park, visiting Cidaon Savana where the wild herbivores usually feed.

How to Get There and What to do in Tanjung Lesung

From Jakarta, Tanjung Lesung is easily accessible by car. With normal traffic, you should be able to reach the beach in about four hours. Obviously, this place is also accessible from all cities in West Java and Banten.

Entrance fee to Tanjung Lesung is IDR25000 during weekdays and IDR40000 during weekends. There are lots of activities to do once you get there, from watersports to cycling, trekking, or exploring Kampung Cikadu, a tourism village.
